THE BOSPHORUS

Life in transit, over water, across two continents

The Bosphorus is a narrow, natural strait, and an internationally significant body of water located right in the middle of the city of Istanbul. It flows between the Black and Marmara seas and divides the city into Europe and Asia. You often feel like you are at the center of the world when crossing in a ferry boat from one continent to another. There is a constant narrative of in-betweenness -- flawed and beautiful -- that flows through and around its waters. She is the urban keeper of Istanbul from which I try to understand the city, the region, and also the world.
